William Leon Stacks

About The Artist

William Leon Stacks, 1928-1991. Stacks was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. He studied with William Lester Stevens and William J. Potter. He was a talented painter, teacher and mentor. His memberships included the American Art Society, National Arts Club, North Carolina Art Association, Salmagundi Club, and Winston-Salem Art Association. He exhibited in New York, North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

He was an art restorer, and arranged collections, including the Eliot Daingerfield Retrospective at the Mint Museum in Charlotte. His work is in the Greenville Art Center, Goldsboro Art Center, Mariner's Museum, State University of New York, the US Navy, and private collections in the United States. He lived in Blowing Rock in the Smoky Mountains and became known as "The Tree Painter". He moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and painted the low country coastal regions. He described himself as an American Expressionist painter.
