Artwork Description

Scarborough Fair¬†is an original oil painting on board by¬† Debra Keirce.¬† The original oil painting on board measures 9″¬† x 7″ with the¬† frame measuring¬† 12¬† 1/2″ high x¬† 10¬† 1/2″ wide.¬† The scene is a colorful spice rack with rosemary,¬† sage,¬† parsley and thyme. Artist note:¬† ” One of the songs that evokes the most memories for me is Scarborough Fair. The lyrics are a bit nonsensical when you think about them. Why should herbs remind me of the 8 track player in my car as a 17 year old? I even remember slamming on the brakes for a not-so-observant construction worker while singing about parsley. That rockin’¬† plaid wallpaper? Oh yeah! It graced the walls of a friend’s kitchen to remind us all it was the 1970’s. We had a four-square party (remember that ball game?) at her house and had fun using this “exercise” machine. You stood on a platform and this rubber band vibrated your bum. You were supposed to lose weight in your hips from this motion. I think it did more for the chiropractic industry than the fat cells. Simon and Garfunkel sang to us while we experienced all of these things. I actually tried to grow heather, just because the music made it sound like I should.

It’s funny to look back on now. But at the time, we thought we were “the bomb.” I will always have a soft spot in my heart for parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme‚Ķ.and a bunch of heather.”
