Through the years, Beverly Abbott has painted a wide range of subject matter and styles. She completed her first oil painting at age twelve and while she has and still does use other media, she always returns to oils. She uses oil paints for the soft buttery texture, blended edges and the rich jewel tones it imparts. Through the use of color and dramatic lighting, she creates her personal response in the style of soft gentle realism.
She does accept commissions of human and pet portraits. For many years Abbott painted purebred dogs almost exclusively. During that time, she bred, trained and showed her miniature Shorthaired dachshunds at American Kennel Club Dog Shows.
Currently, Beverly Abbott enjoys painting the scenes, flowers, and wildlife that she has observed on her travels by filtering the effects of weather, sounds and smells through her senses to recreate her reactions and feelings at the time. As long as she is painting a particular work she is able to maintain an ongoing dialogue with that subject extending her initial delight in the scene or animal. She strives to make her animals as alive in appearance as two dimensions will allow and to show the unique character and personality of the subject.
“The natural world is a beautiful place that should be preserved and enjoyed and treasured. I hope the viewer finds in my work the same delight as I received in creating the scene, flower, and animal. To have that wow factor hit them as hard as it had to hit me to inspire the creation of the art.”
Beverly Abbott is listed in Marquis’ Who’s Who in American 2000-2002, Who’s Who in American Women 2001 and Who’s Who in the World 2001-2002.
